We adore the Cooper Pillbox hat and it is a great winter wedding hat.  The Cooper features a luxurious felt base, featured here in Alabasta felt which is a new shade for 2018.  It is then trimmed with a large English-style rose which is beautifully framed with a crinoline bow and two short feathers.

 

 

New for Autumn/Winter 2018 are our cocktail hats.  Our cocktail hats are small and beautifully formed and are designed to be flat to the head and perched to one side. One of our favourites is the Blyton which comprises a felt disc base is adorned with a jewelled spider, bee and flower in metallics and diamanté. This will look gorgeous against a winter coat and will add that special finishing touch to your outfit.

 

 

If you are looking for something a little larger then the Austen Dish hat is an absolutely beautiful choice, and we think that this hat is perfect for any winter mother of the bride. The Austen dish hat comprises a felt dish base available in a large choice of colours and is trimmed with  a large, double-looped, diamond patterned sinamay bow.  The loose ends of the bow wrap neatly around the brim edge. You can choose to have the bow in a colour to match the base or a contrasting colour; either of which will look fabulous. The hat is made on a hair band which we will match to your hair colour.

 

 

 

Another of our favourite winter wedding hats is the Atwood hat. Perfect for a winter wedding or a day at the races, the Atwood dish hat comprises a small tear-drop shaped felt dish base with upturned edges beautifully adorned with orchid style flowers. The hat pictured here is made on a hair band which will be matched to your hair colour.

Our Edit: Mother of the Bride Hats

The Moet Hat is a great Mother of the Bride or Groom hat. The base and the crinoline bows can be in different colours so you can pick out an accent colour for your outfit.

 

The Collins Dish hat is a beautiful Mother of the Bride hat with lots of flexibility to pick out the colours in your outfit .  It has a very romantic style and although it looks like a hat is actually made on a double hair band which is comfortable to wear and reduces the ‘hat hair’ effect of a traditional brimmed hat.

 

 

 

The Tequila Dish hat is made on a smaller dish if you are looking for a smaller hat that still has a brim. The crinoline bows make this smaller dish hat feel more substantial.

 

 

 

If a Pillbox/Cocktail Hat is more the style you want then the Spritz pill box hat is a great choice.  The feather detailing allows you to choose up to 3 colours to pick out accent colours in your outfit. This hat can come on your choice of hair band or elastic, whichever you would find the most comfortable.

A Note on Wedding Hat Etiquette

We know you will love your hat and want to wear it all day however not everyone will be as comfortable! Etiquette dictates that your Guests will take the Mother of the Bride’s lead on when to remove their hat, usually just prior to the wedding breakfast.  If the venue permits it, try to find a way for guests to secure their hats whilst the festivities continue.  A great way to do this is providing a ‘washing line and pegs solution’ usually against a wall where hats can be pegged up and kept safe.

Whether you are attending The Grand National, The Derby, Royal Ascot or York’s Ebor Festival a day at the races is the perfect excuse to dress up, wear a hat and have a great time. At Hostie Hats we have your race day hat needs covered!

As an avid racing fan and racegoer I am often asked for my top tips on what to wear at the races in the middle of winter! Here are my top tips and they’re not all about hats…(I know, really!) Here’s a little piece I wrote for a magazine last season so I thought I would share it with you!

If you have a race day approaching like Ascot and Cheltenham it is time to find an outfit for the races that is stylish yet comfortable, whilst feeling warm and snug. Often at the races we are on our feet all day so choosing the right footwear is so important. Leather or suede knee boots will always look elegant and a wedge heel is always handy when walking on rough and wet terrain. A well-fitting tailored coat is perfect for the winter races and can transform your outfit, but forget about florals and pastels, choose darker richer colours in wool, velvet or tweed and don’t be afraid of winter white as this is always a real head turner. Follow the Duchess of Cambridge and add a felt pillbox or saucer hat, this will seriously up the style stakes and will complement the heavier fabric of a winter coat.  For a more casual winter look a stunning tweed cape is chic and practical, team it with one of this seasons on trend trilby’s or fedoras to ensure you will always stand out from the crowd!
